HIAB Delivery to a Yorkshire Hospital with a Precisely Planned Delivery Window
Operational Context
Not every delivery can be carried out with a standard van or truck. When a heavy and bulky load must arrive at a hospital at an exact time, and there is no unloading equipment on site, standard transport stops being an option. That was exactly the case for this job from a manufacturing customer based in Manchester, who required a HIAB vehicle to transport a heavy and bulky load to a hospital in Yorkshire.
The delivery could only be accepted at 13:00 due to the availability of the team on site. This meant the entire operation had to be planned carefully, with the right vehicle secured for loading, transport and unloading.
Neither the collection site nor the delivery site had a forklift available, and the goods were too heavy and too large to be unloaded manually. This is why a HIAB vehicle was required - a lorry equipped with a mounted crane to support the loading, unloading and transport of heavy or bulky goods.
The Challenge
The operational requirements were highly specific.
The customer needed a specialist HIAB vehicle because a standard transport solution would not allow the load to be handled safely. An additional challenge was the limited availability of this type of vehicle. Unlike standard vans and trucks, HIAB movements usually need to be planned further in advance, as these vehicles are often allocated across the week.
The timed delivery requirement was also critical. The goods had to arrive at the hospital at exactly 13:00. Any delay could have disrupted the availability of the on-site team and affected the next stage of the work.
Response and Planning
The customer contacted us on a Monday and explained that a specialist vehicle was required due to the lack of a forklift on site and the nature of the goods being transported.
Despite the limited availability of this type of vehicle, we were able to secure a suitable HIAB and plan collection for 09:00. The movement was scheduled to ensure delivery to the Yorkshire hospital at exactly 13:00, in line with the availability of the team on site.
This job required more than simply finding the right vehicle. It also depended on precise operational planning to ensure that the specialist solution was delivered exactly when it was needed.
Execution
Collection was completed as planned at 09:00.
The movement was carried out using a HIAB vehicle, allowing the heavy and oversized load to be loaded, transported and unloaded safely without the need for a forklift at either the collection point or the delivery site.
Delivery was completed on time at 13:00 at the hospital in Yorkshire, in line with the customer's requirements and the availability of the team on site.
Outcome
The job was completed successfully, and both collection and delivery went smoothly. Because the delivery arrived on time, the team on site was able to begin the planned work at the hospital without delay.
The customer was pleased with the outcome. This is a regular MBL Connect customer who uses our services at least three times per week. However, this was the first consignment they had booked with us that required a specialist vehicle.
As well as handling standard transport requirements, MBL Connect can also provide more specialised solutions when an operation depends on the right vehicle type and closely managed timing.
Operational Capability
This example demonstrates MBL Connect's ability to:
- Arrange specialist vehicles, including HIAB
- Plan deliveries around precise timed windows
- Complete transport movements to locations with specific operational requirements
- Support manufacturing and industrial customers with non-standard transport solutions
- Coordinate deliveries where there is no unloading infrastructure at one or both ends of the movement
We can also arrange Moffett vehicles where no forklift is available on site, as well as flatbed vehicles that allow bulky goods to be transported and loaded or unloaded more easily due to the open vehicle access.
